The Sponsors Report  :

The Sponsors Report, offered by Joyce Julius and Associates since 1985, provides comprehensive documentation of sponsorship exposure during nationally-televised sports and special events. With a highly trained staff of television research experts featuring more than 50 years of combined experience, each Sponsors Report issue contains clear-cut and complete sponsorship findings not available anywhere else in the industry.

Not only does the Sponsors Report document the total exposure received by sponsors during television broadcasts, but our research enables us to provide complete detail regarding where the exposure was monitored. Whether seen on the hood of a stock car or the mid-field logo a during college bowl game, the Sponsors report tabulates and values each source where a sponsor receives exposure during a telecast – thus giving our clients the ability to fine tune their sponsorship involvement.

Methodology

Through the utilization of highly developed software our Sponsors Report staff electronically monitors and tabulates all clear and in-focus exposure during each television broadcast. To avoid unnecessary duplication, when two or more of the same sponsor’s identities appear on screen, only the dominant source is counted. Additionally, each mention of a sponsor’s name or product(s) are counted and equated to 10-seconds of on-screen time, based on an average of three references per 30-second commercial spot.

Finally, to attribute a comparable value for each sponsor’s exposure during the telecast, the clear and in-focus exposure time and verbal references are compared to the individual broadcast’s estimated or non-discounted (in most cased supplied by the network) cost per 30-second (CP:30) advertising rate. As a result, the values reflected in the Sponsors Report provide an excellent comparison between the actual exposure received during the broadcast and traditional commercials.

Categorization

Generally, the Sponsors Report organizes all monitored entities into two categories. Various sponsors accumulating exposure from television broadcasts are included in a "Sponsor Exposure Summary" section, while all non-commercial entities, such as event sites, host cities, sanctioning organizations and non-profit institutions, are included in an "Other Entities" category.

For motorsports event telecasts, the Sponsors Report provides additional entity categorization, including a "Team Sponsor" section which encompasses any sponsor deemed the primary financial backer of a racing team. Sponsors with any other role are placed in the "Associate, Series and Event" sponsor category. This portion of the report includes associate team sponsors, series, event, track signage and incidental sponsors.

Event and broadcast stats

Each Sponsors Report contains a summary listing the event site, date(s), and broadcast information including the network, viewership and telecast length. When replays of an event occur, both the exposure results and broadcast statistics will reflect all airings when applicable.

Entrant mentions and interviews

In addition to exposure results and broadcast statistics, each Sponsors Report also tabulates all verbal references made toward each entrant participating in the event. Similarly, all interviews are included in this section that reports the total number of entrant’s interviews, as well as the total duration of the interviews.
